01 / THE IDEA
Eyes on the court,
not on the screen.
Tennis officiating demands constant attention. SmartUmpire was designed around a simple idea: the technology should follow the umpire, not distract them from the match.
The product combines voice interaction with live scoring and tournament operations, allowing officials to manage key match actions while staying focused on the court.
An umpire’s hands and attention belong to the match. Every point still has to be recorded, every serve timed and every event logged. Voice input lets that work happen in the background of the game rather than in front of it, while manual controls stay available for the moments that need a correction.
02 / THE PRODUCT IN MOTION
Officiating, without taking
your eyes off the match.

03 / CORE CAPABILITIES
What the product
actually does.
Four sides of the same officiating experience.
Explore what SmartUmpire covers.
The score, called out loud.
Spoken commands drive the scoreboard, so the umpire keeps their hands free and their attention on play.
- Voice-controlled scoringSpeech recognition turns spoken calls into score changes.
- Tennis scoring logicPoints, games, sets and service order handled by the app.
- Serve timer & match timingA serve clock and match timing run alongside the score.
- Manual overridesTimer and score can always be corrected by hand.

04 / PRODUCT OPERATIONS
A tournament is more
than its matches.
The administrator experience covers the operational side of an event. Tournaments are created and maintained, matches are organised beneath them, and officials are managed and assigned to the matches they will run.
Tournaments, matches and umpires each have their own view, so an organiser can move between the event schedule and the people running it without leaving the app. Where tournament data already exists as a spreadsheet, XLSX tooling brings it in instead of requiring it to be typed again.

05 / THE NATIVE EXPERIENCE
Built as an iOS app,
not a page in a shell.
SmartUmpire is written in Swift and SwiftUI, so navigation, controls and typography behave the way officials already expect on their own device.
Notifications keep an umpire ahead of the schedule with match reminders, tournament updates and schedule changes. Face ID can be required when the app opens, and account actions — password changes, email reset, privacy and terms — stay inside the same settings experience.

06 / TECHNOLOGY
The stack behind
the experience.
A native application layer over a hosted backend, with the platform capabilities the product depends on.

THE OUTCOME
One product that holds
the whole match.
Voice interaction, live scoring, timing, match events and tournament operations belong to a single native iOS product rather than a set of disconnected tools. SmartUmpire is an independent product by WhyTech, designed and built in house.
Screens and product footage captured from the SmartUmpire iOS app. Names, tournaments and figures shown in the interface are sample data.
